The Peoples Democratic Party on Friday in Abuja cleared five aspirants to participate in the August 19, 2017 governorship primary election in Anambra State.

Those cleared include a former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah, Lynda Ikpeazu, Dr. Patrick Ubah, John Emeka and Dr. Alex Obiogolu.

The party, however, stopped Mr. Akolisa Ufodike from participating in the exercise for holding Nigerian and Canadian citizenships while it held on to the clearance of another aspirant, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, pending the decision of the party’s National Executive Committee.

Chairman of the Screening Panel and former Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Adamu Waziri, who made the disclosure while speaking with journalists, revealed that Ufodike was barred based on the provision of Section 182 (1) of Nigeria’s constitution, which states that anyone aspiring to become a governor of a state must hold only Nigerian citizenship.
