2015 Elections: Nigeria has decided, Buhari Wins

The APC Presidential candidate General Muhammadu Buhari has Emerged winner of Nigeria’s 2015 Presidential elections after four failed attempts at the presidency, defeating the incumbent president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of the ruling party, PDP.

At the end of the collation of results which began at 12 noon on Monday and continued until the late hours of Tuesday, Buhari got 15,416,221 votes against the sitting President Goodluck Jonathan who polled a total of 12,853,162 .

The 73 year old General Muhammadu Buhari was victorious in 21 states which are Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara while Goodluck Jonathan prevailed the following 15 states; Rivers, Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa, Imo, Enugu, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Ebonyi, Cross River, Bayelsa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia and the FCT.

Prior to the announcement of results from Borno State, which was the last result to be announced before the final collation, President Goodluck Jonathan had called the APC candidate to congratulate him on his victory as it was already evident at the time that he had won the elections.

Governor Ayodele Fayose who is a strong critic of Buhari also congratulated him on his victory, saying Nigerians should accept the outcome of the elections as the will of God. He said, the result of the elections should not be seen as victory or loss for any party, rather to him, Nigerians and democracy won.

Congratulations to the President elect General Muhammadu Buhari. This election has placed a mark on the history of Nigeria and has shown that democracy has indeed come to stay. The question however on the minds on Nigerians now is, What will the new Nigeria look like? I hope the New president will bring to us the change we truly desire and i hope the new Nigeria will be the Nigeria of our dreams. God bless Nigeria.
