According to reports on goal.com, the Portugal international is open to moving back to Manchester United before he retires but the Welshman would like to see him stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Gareth Bale is desperate for Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at Real Madrid amidst reports that his fellow forward is considering a return to Manchester United.

Ronaldo left Old Trafford for the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009 and has thrived in Spain, scoring a remarkable 269 goals in just 257 appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos.

However, the current Ballon d’Or holder is open to the idea of re-joining United before he retires and Madrid had to make it clear to the 29-year-old that he will not be allowed to leave next summer.

Bale, though, is hoping that Ronaldo stays in the Spanish capital for the foreseeable future, having struck up a prolific partnership with the Portuguese that propelled Carlo Ancelotti’s side to Champions League glory last season.

“He’s obviously a player we wouldn’t want to see leave,” the Wales international told reporters on Wednesday. “Of course I want to see him stay at Real Madrid.

“He’s shown what a world-class player he is year after year scoring the goals he has.”

Bale, of course, only arrived at the Bernabeu from Tottenham last summer but despite enjoying a fine debut season with Madrid, which featured a stunning winner in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona and a headed goal in the Champions League final success over Atletico, his form has been the subject of much debate this term.

Indeed, a recent poll carried out in Marca suggested that 60 per cent of Blancos fans want the winger dropped. When asked if the reported fan unrest at his fluctuating form could prompt him to consider his future at Madrid, he replied: “I signed a six-year deal last year so I don’t really think so.”

Bale, who joined Madrid for a reported world-record €100 million transfer fee, has racked up 27 goals in 56 appearances for the Spanish side to date.
