The national women’s senior basketball team, D’Tigress have intensified their preparations for the All Africa Games (AAG) and 2015 African Nations Cup qualifying games against Cote d’Ivoire.
The girls jump-started their preparations towards qualification for both events on Sunday when the team opened camp at the Abuja National Stadium.
But the team is now training twice a day to perfect tactics against the Ivorians when the two do battle in the two-legged encounter fixed for May 25th and June 5th.
Three foreign based players are in for the games with other home based players battling for the starting line up in the team.
There is a general optimism in the camp as the team Coach, Aderemi Adewunmi believes that the Ivorians can’t stop the D’Tigress in their quest for double glory in this year’s competition.
Also, President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Tijani Umar said the country will not settle for anything less than the tickets.
He therefore, charged the ladies to replicate the success achieved by the national men’s basketball team at the same qualifiers.
Nigeria is the defending champions at the AAG.
Afrobasket women’s championship will be held in Cameroun, while the All Africa Games is scheduled to take place in Congo Brazzaville from September 4-19.
