BET SoulTrain 2019: Wizkid wins songwriting award for ‘Brown Skin Girl’
Nigerian Afropop superstar, Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid on Sunday, November 17 won the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the 2019 edition of the BET Soul Train Awards, alongside American sweetheart, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.
The award was for his efforts on his collaboration with Beyoncé, Blue Ivy Carter and SaiNt Jhn for Brown Skin Girl, off the Lion King album.
The ceremony which took place on at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, saw the ‘Ojuelegba’ singer sharing the award with other credited songwriters including, Beyoncé, Carlos St. John, Adio Marchant and Shawn Carter.
This is not the first but the third time Wizkid had made the nominees’ list for the prestigious award as he was nominated for Best Dance Performance in 2017 for his song ‘Come Closer’ and in 2016 for the Rhythm and Bars category for his song ‘One Dance.
