A bomb explosion has occurred near the college library at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Kontagora, Niger State on Wednesday, Leadership newspaper reports.

Many are feared to have died in the explosion.

A social commentator, Randa Andrew, wrote on his Twitter page: “A bomb just went off at the College where I lecture.”

He observed that the blast occurred at about 12:15pm today, an explosion that rocked his car. Staff and students ran for cover, but some were not lucky. They died.

“I counted at least 3 dead bodies as I tried to navigate to safety,” Andrew said. “Mainly female students.”

Kontagora is in Niger state, about 243 km from Abuja.

Randa Andrew noted, sadly, that some ‘Almajiri kids’ were currently on the receiving end of attacks from irate students. One can presume that they are being blamed – wrongfully – for the blasts.

“Police and other security agencies were quick to respond. Kudos to them. I still can’t believe it,” Randa Andrew said.

More details later…………
