Costa Rica on Saturday secured a surprise 3-1 victory over highly favoured Uruguay in the second match of day 3 at the ongoing World Cup in Brazil. The Uruguayans went into the match as hot favourites and got their noses in front after Edinson Cavani converted coolly from the spot in the 24th minute. Efforts from both sides did not result in more goals as they both headed for the tunnel.

The Costaricans looked livelier at the start of the second half and made their point in the 54th minute when Joel Campbel drew them level. The seemingly unbelievable haapened three minutes later, as Oscar Duarte gave Costa Rica the lead against all odds.

It went from bad to worse for Uruguay in the 84th minute as Marco Urena was on hand to seal a famous victory for the Caribbeans.
