CBN Update: Emefiele To Unveil Agenda On Thursday

CBN-GOVERNOR-ASSUMES-OFFICE-IN-ABUJAThe new governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mr Godwin Emefiele, has said he will unveil his agenda for the apex bank and the people of Nigeria at a maiden World Press Conference scheduled for tomorrow at the CBN headquarters in Abuja.

Financial sector stakeholders both within and outside the country are awaiting with high expectations, the policy direction for the CBN under the new governor.

Emefiele formally assumed office yesterday as the 10th indigenous governor in the history of the apex bank, following the expiration of his predecessor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s tenure on June 2, 2014.

The new governor, who arrived at the CBN headquarters at 7:30 am yesterday, was received by the four deputy governors, and staff led by Dr Sarah Alade, whose tenure as acting governor ended on Monday, June 2, 2014, the apex bank’s acting director, Corporate Services, Mr Isaac Okorafor said in a statement.

Emefiele was nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan on February 20 following the suspension of Sanusi. He was cleared by the Senate on Wednesday March 26, 2014

Speaking during the brief handing over ceremony, Emefiele thanked the erstwhile acting governor and other deputy governors as well as members of staff for gracing his formal assumption of office, Okorafor said in the statement.

The immediate past group managing director of Zenith Bank Plc, Emefiele brings along to his new role over 20 years of banking management experience. He is a 1984 graduate of Finance and an MBA degree in Finance in 1986, both from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is also an alumnus of Executive Education at Stanford University, Harvard University (2004) and Wharton Graduate School of Business (2005).
