The home based Super Eagles will be squaring off against the Atlas Lions of Morocco in the Quarter Finals of the ongoing African Nations Championships, CHAN, after the North Africans emerged as Group B winners on Monday night.
Morocco defeated Uganda 3-1 to finish top in Group B; while Zimbabwe, who finished second in the group, will be up against Group A winner, Mali.
Just as South Africa and Mozambique were eliminated from Group A on Sunday, the duo of Uganda and Burkina Faso, who had hoped to play Nigeria in the final, have also crashed out following Monday’s results.
The quarter final pairings already portends fierce battle for semi-final slots amongst the contesting countries. Nigeria, though making a debut at the 2014 edition, hopes to win the CHAN in South Africa; same country where the main Super Eagles emerged African champions in February.
The quarter final battle between Nigeria and Morocco will take place on January 25 at the Cape Town Stadium, same venue Nigeria has played all her matches since the start of the tournament on January 11. Already, the Eagles are talking tough; as emerging midfield star, Abdulahi Shehu, said on Monday that the best of the Eagles is yet to come. Shooting Stars striker, Gbolahan Salami is a major doubt for the game.
