The fight for the English Premier League title took another dimension on Saturday after Chelsea were held at home by Burnley.

Burnley came to Stamford Bridge and secured an unanticipated result, holding out for a 1-1 draw against a highly-favoured Chelsea team.

With Chelsea seen as the favourites to win the title, the result would come as a disappointment to the Blues, suffering a blip that has now given Manchester City an opportunity to come back into contention.

Branislav Ivanovic gave Chelsea the lead in the first half and it looked like it was going to be a routine victory for them.

However the second goal didn’t come as they expected, and they knew they were hanging in there as Burnely became dangerous.

Chelsea had two penalty appeals turned down and it got worse for Jose Mourinho’s team when Nemanja Matic was shown a red card.

Burnely capitalised and Ben Mee headed in a late goal from the corner kick to level for Sean Dyche’s team .

Chelsea would see City close the gap to five points, if they beat Newcastle in their late kick-off.

Meanwhile, it was yet another game to forget for Manchester United after they crumbled at the Liberty stadium, losing 2-1 to Swansea.

United played their best game in a long while, but the result was another story altogether as they ended up being beaten.

Ander Herrera opened the scores for United but it didn’t take more than two minutes for Swansea to equalise.

Ki Sung-yueng equalised for the Swans, with both teams tied at 1-1 all going into the break.

But with United chasing the game for a winning goal, Swansea struck and got the winning goal to take all three points.

Jonjo Shelvey’s shot deflected off Bafetimbi Gomis and went past David De Gea in the 75th minute, leaving United shell-shocked.

Swansea with the win completed the double over Man United and have now won three of their last four games against them.

Arsenal on their part moved up to third on the table after securing a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
