FIRS Board Retires Directors, Appoints Group Leads

The retirement of all directors that have served up to eight years in the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, has been approved by the board of the agency.

The Director, Communications and Liaison Department of the FIRS, Abdullahi Ahmad, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 in Abuja, said that the board also approved the appointment of four coordinating directors and two group leads in acting capacity.

He said the move was part of ongoing internal reforms to reposition the service towards achieving its N8.5tn tax target.

Ahmad said, “The FIRS board took this decision at its emergency meeting No. 2 held on Friday, March 20, 2020 during which it also approved the retirement of all directors who have served for eight years and above as directors in the service, in line with Para 10.1(a)(iii) of Human Resources Policy and Programmes of the FIRS statute.”

The newly appointed coordinating directors are Dr Asheikh Maidugu who is now coordinating director, executive chairman group; Mr Olufemi Oluwaniyi, CD/tax operations group; Mr Innocent Ohagwa, CD/general services group; and Mr Ezra Zubairu, CD/enforcement support group.

The group leads are Mrs Faosat Oguniyi, compliance support group; and Ms Chiaka Okoye, digital support group.

He said in a statement that the new appointments took immediate effect and would subsist for six months.
