From Speaker to Governor: Tambuwal Emerges Governor Elect of Sokoto

Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the House of Representatives and APC gubernatorial candidate in Sokoto State, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s gubernatorial poll, PM News reports.

NAN reports that Tambuwal scored 647,609 votes to clinch victory from Sen. Abdallah Wali of the PDP who scored 269,074 votes.

The results were declared by the INEC State Returning Officer, Prof. Abubakar Bagudo, on Sunday in Sokoto.

Bagudo said that Tambuwal won the race, having scored the highest number of votes.

He also said there were 926,682 valid votes; 32,054 rejected, and 958,736 votes cast.

Sen. Wali later congratulated the winner and asked the people of the state to consider the verdict as the will of God.

The PDP State Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, congratulated Tambuwal, saying the race was in the spirit of sportsmanship.

Governor Aliyu Wamakko expressed happiness at the victory, saying the people would not regret giving their mandate to Tambuwal.

Responding, Tambuwal promised to live above board and sustain the laudable achievements of Wamakko.
