The ninth Future Africa Awards and Summit has opened its nominations for “outstanding Africans between the ages of 18 and 31”, hoping to inspire leadership and promote enterprise on the continent.

The initiative is supported by Microsoft, the United States Consulate and the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

“With its umbrella The Future Project, it has been in the forefront of inspiring a new generation of leaders/leadership and entrepreneurs for Nigeria,” the organization said.

The foundation is calling for young people around the continent to submit the nominations before June 12.

Categories include education, agriculture, advocacy, technology, public service, community action, business, entertainment, enterprise support and young person of the year.

“In eight years, The Future Africa Awards has built a strong reputation as a credible and relevant awards event for young Africans. This season is set to be most exciting yet! The #IamAfrica campaign is unveiled with our trail blazers Alumni who will be ambassadors,” the organization said in a statement.

Ambassadors include actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, young businessman Ashish Thakkar, iROKO TV Chairman Jason Njoku, clean water advocate Saran Kaba Jones and executive director at The Future Project Chude Jideonwo.

The Future Africa Awards and Summit will take place over two days where “the continent’s most influential leaders and institutions with portfolios on youth will gather to chart immediate action-points for expansion of jobs and opportunities, as well as good governance and citizen engagement”.
