European Champions Real Madrid have been rated the world’s most valuable sports team by Forbes magazine.

In its list of 50 most valuable sports teams in world, Forbes rated the Spanish giants, who won a 10th European Cup in May, first, valued at $3.44 billion (£2bn).

Los Blancos, sit ahead of rivals Barcelona and Manchester United, who sit second and third respectively. Barcelona, are valued at $3.2bn, while United rank at $2.81bn.

Major League Baseball side the New York Yankees are fourth, valued at $2.5bn, with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in fifth place, worth $2.3bn.

Forbes calculates the value of each team based on equity, debt and stadium deals.

American Football teams make up 60% of the top 50 slots – claiming 30 places – despite the Oakland Raiders falling out of the top 50.

Other football clubs that featured in the top 50 are Bayern Munich (7th in the world) Valued at $1.85 billion, Arsenal, (16th in the world) valued at $1.331 billion, Chelsea (48th in the world) Valued at $867 million, Manchester City (49th in the world) Valued at $863 million and AC Milan (50th in the world) Valued at $856 million.
