Man Utd spent £700m, yet stand still – Neville

Former Red Devils defender, Gary Neville has said that only little progress has been made in the transfer market by Manchester United despite having spent 700 million Euros since Sir Alex Ferguson departed.

He said the club have sadly stood still in spite of the huge sums of money invested heavily before current boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge.

He said as Solskjaer began the processing of stamping his imprint on the club ahead of the summer, he believed there are 12 deals set for the new coach to oversee.

He noted that the big-money additions made over the past few years, some of which were Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku have failed to push the club back into Premier League title contention with a top-four finish representing the height of domestic ambition seemingly achievable in the current campaign.

Neville said: “Over the last six or seven years, United have put £700m into that squad, and they’re still falling well short of where Liverpool and Manchester City are at the moment – they’re 16-18 points behind.

“So what you have to look at is how United bridge that gap, and yes they will do that through the spirit that Solskjaer has created, but they have to get better players on the pitch that can compete with Liverpool and City to go along with some of the very good players they’ve already got.
