“Nigeria-Turkish Cultural Festival Expected To Promote Stronger Ties”

nigeria turkey universitty nileAbuja – The Vice Chancellor, Nigeria Turkish Nile University, Prof. Huseyin Sert, has said that the Nigeria-Turkish Cultural Festival will project the rich cultural heritage of both countries to the world.
Sert said this at the fourth edition of the “Nigeria-Turkish Friendship Cultural Festival’’ at the university in Abuja on Saturday.

According to him, Nigeria and Turkey have lots of cultural similarities which will benefit both countries, He said that the festival was an opportunity for both countries to build stronger relationships as well as showcase their cultural potentials.

Culture is the whole essence of man’s existence, so we need to remind ourselves constantly of our norms and values.Our cultures are some of the things we need to pass to the younger generations to keep them alive,’’ he said.

Sert said that Turkey, just like Nigeria, had different cultural groups and more than 100 ethnic groups that needed understanding to co-exist.

The Turkish are very strong traditionalists and we love our folk dance and music, we like to dance just like Nigerians, and both countries had very close relationship with each other in the past.We are now looking to the future for stronger cultural exchanges, educational and cultural cooperation. I think this will carry us forward to understand each other better. We have had few high level exchanges; the best is what we are looking forward to,’’ he said.

Earlier, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and National Orientation, Edem Duke, said the Nigeria-Turkish Friendship Cultural Festival would showcase the cultural potentials of Nigeria,Duke, therefore, solicited for investors in the sector

The minister was represented by the Director of Culture in the ministry, George Ufot.The festival featured arts and crafts exhibitions from the different states in Nigeria and Turkey.
