The senate has declined the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

While speaking with journalists on Thursday, the senate spokesman, Abdullahi Sabi, said the rejection was due to a security report.

“The senate of the federal republic of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that based on the security report available to the senate, the senate cannot proceed and confirm the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as the executive chairman of the EFCC,” he said

“Accordingly, the senate hereby rejects the said nomination and has returned it to Mr President for further action.”

Furthermore, when the upper legislative chamber emerged from a closed-door session, TheCable reports that Bukola Saraki, senate president, said the other nominated members should face the anti-corruption committee for screening.
