Vincent Enyeama nominated for the BBC African Footballer of the Year award

Super Eagles goalkeeper has been shortlisted as one of the players nominated for the BBC Footballer of the year award.

The Lille FC player is among the five-man shortlist unveiled today by the organisers for the best African player in 2014.

Other African players nominated for the award are: current BBC African player of year, Yaya Toure, his national teammate, Gervinho, Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabon’s Yacine Brahimi.

Enyeama had a fantastic season for Lille, helping them qualify for the Europa League competition, and keeping 21 clean sheets in a league season.

And the 32-year old equally had a good World Cup outing with the Super Eagles,helping Nigeria qualify for the second round of the tournament.

Austin Jay Jay Okocha was the last Nigerian to win the BBC player of the year, winning the 2003 and 2004 editions.
