Arsene Wenger hailed Arsenal’s first trophy since 2005 after they won the FA Cup and he suggested that he is set to sign a new deal at the club.

Wenger’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, and has refused to discuss his future in recent weeks.

But now having won his first piece of silverware in nine years, he has suggested that he is likely to sign a new contract.

Asked if he was going to stay, he told Sky Sports News: “Normally, yes of course.”

And he admitted that the cup final win, a dramatic 3-2 success which came via an extra-time winner from Aaron Ramsey after they trailed 2-0, was a tough match.

In a related development, Gerardo Martino has confirmed he will leave Barcelona after a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid saw his side surrender the Spanish title.

The 51-year-old came to a mutual agreement to exit the club following just one season in charge.

Martino replaced the late Tito Villanova at the Nou Camp last summer, but the Spanish Super Cup was the only silverware he managed to claim as Barca endured a largely inconsistent campaign.

“In agreement with the club I am no longer the coach. I deeply regret not having achieved the goals that this club has always been set and achieved. These are great players. My greatest gratitude goes to the players. They have made me proud.”

Barca’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta said: “We are grateful to ‘Tata’. This has been a tough season.”

Martino’s side were one game away from retaining the Liga trophy as they hosted Atletico on the final day of the season, but despite Alexis Sanchez’s opener, a second-half header from Diego Godin was enough for Diego Simeone’s men to end their 18-year title drought.
