After the first round of matches at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the five African representatives at the tournament have only been able to amass 4 points, scoring 4 goals, conceding  6, in a total of 5 matches.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon put up a dismal performance against Mexico and lost 1-0. The Black Stars of Ghana despite a spirited fight against the USA, lost 2-1. The Super Eagles who played the easiest opponent of the lot stuttered to a goalless draw against Iran. The Desert Foxes of Algeria could not hold on to their lead against Belgium and ended losing 2-1.

The Elephants of Ivory Coast came from a goal down to beat Japan 2-1 to give Africa the only victory so far in the tournament.

Going by this performance, do you think African teams can still make meaningful strides in this tournament?
