World marks Int’l Food Day

Today is World Food Day, it is a day set aside by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations to deliberate on Food Security in the world.
Back home, Nigeria Government will join other countries of the world to mark the day.

Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinkumi Adesina emphasised the need for Nigerians to embrace agriculture towards accelerating food provision in the country.

The Chairman of Voices for Food Security and Secretary of Nigeria National Merit Award, Professor Gbolagade Ayoola said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Family Farming” feed the earth was apt.

Also commenting on the Day, the former Chairman of All Farmers Association, Senator Abdallahi Adamu also called for greater investment on Agriculture by the government.

Radio Nigeria Agriculture Correspondent, reports that Expert in the Agricultural Sector have been converging on Abuja in the last three days to commemorate the day.

Meanwhile, Farmers in Nasarawa State have called on government at all levels to initiate workable policies that would ensure food security in the State as the world marks World Food Day.
