Elizabeth Joice, 36, was so desperate to have the baby girl she loved that she turned down life saving lung cancer treatment and died just weeks after giving birth to her dream baby, her husband reveals in a heartbreaking interview.
A New York City woman made the brave decision to give up her cancer treatment so that she could continue carrying her baby. Read her touching story below.

Elizabeth Joice Gave Up Her Life To Have A Baby
Elizabeth lost her life to lung cancer just over a month after giving birth to her daughter, Lily Anne Joice.

Just one month after finding out she was pregnant in June 2013, Elizabeth’s doctors found a tumor in her lung. They removed it with surgery, but because she was pregnant they could not give her the full body MRI scan she needed to see if her cancer was spreading or not.

Because of this, Lily was delivered almost two months early in January 2014 via c-section.

Sadly, it was too late for Elizabeth. The cancer had spread almost immediately into her second lung, her heart, and her abdomen. Though she fought the cancer for six weeks after her daughter was born, Elizabeth ultimately lost the battle on March 9.

Elizabeth’s Story Will Be Told In ’40 Weeks’ Documentary
Now that Elizabeth is gone, her husband Max wants the world to know her story. Max believes that her positive spirit and inspiring strength is a story that should be shared with the world.

“She had this positive energy that made you want to be the best version of yourself. She was intolerant of self-pity,” Max told the New York Post in an interview.

Max also believes that the six short weeks Elizabeth spent with their daughter, Lily, was enough for her “magic” to rub off on their baby.

“Liz’s magic rubbed off on Lily,” Max said. “She’s beautiful and remarkable. It provides me with the strength to get through this.”

Elizabeth’s story will be told in a documentary called 40 Weeks, which was directed by Christopher Henze. The film follows Elizabeth and Max on their quest to have a family, no matter what it would cost them.
