Four more patients, who had been undergoing treatment for the Ebola virus disease, were on Monday discharged from the Lagos treatment centre, after they had been certified free of the disease.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, who disclosed this in a statement by  his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Mr. Dan Nwomeh, said that those discharged included three medical personnel and a female patient.
He said that the medical personnel  included  two male medical doctors and one female nurse.

He said the three medical personnel participated in the treatment of the index  case (the Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, who was the first person to die of the disease), while the fourth person was a female patient at the time the index case was on admission.

The statement read, “The Minister of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu has announced that four additional confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease who have been managed successfully and are now disease free have been discharged home today.

“They include two male medical doctors and one female nurse. The three participated in the treatment of the index case while the fourth person was a female patient at the time the index case was on admission.

“This brings to five the total number of patients diagnosed with Ebola Virus Disease who have now been discharged from hospital.”
It will be recalled that the minister on Saturday, announced that the first Nigerian to be diagnosed of EVD, a female doctor, had been discharged after she was treated and healed of the disease.
