“We Have Identified All Primary Contacts Of Ebola In Nigeria”- FG

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that all primary contacts of the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria have been identified. The government also confirmed one more case of the virus in Lagos bringing the total number of Ebola Virus Disease victims to 10.

A total of 177 primary and secondary contacts of the index case have also been placed under surveillance.

Minister of Health Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu who disclosed this at a world media briefing in Abuja on Monday said of these 10 cases, 2 have died (the Liberian American and the Nigerian nurse) while 8 are alive and currently on treatment.

He identified the new victim as a married nurse, adding that her husband has also been placed under surveillance.

Quashing fears that the disease may have spread out of control, Chukwu said “we have succeeded in identifying all the primary contacts.”

Today marks the 22nd day since the dreaded EVD first landed in Nigeria.
